Great piece, and introduced me to a lot of art I was not familiar with.

The winner in our eyes, I think. I find your handling of academic/intellectual writing touchingly humane. Thank you. This was lovely.

I remember going to the Acropolis a couple of years ago and seeing the real caryatids at the Acropolis Museum—armless and serene and impassive, they seemed to be figures of time itself, holding up the weight of history.

I love how you use the caryatid as a way to explore the depiction of the female body throughout art history—the way you write is so poetical, and it's so interesting to follow the thread between the ancient caryatids and all these works of contemporary art you tie in. Francesca Woodman is one of my favorite photographers and a constant source of inspiration, so thank you for introducing me to Blueprint for a Temple!

Thank you! I believe they were some of her last works, gesturing to an expanded use of scale she might have developed had she lived longer.

This was so well-researched and fascinating! I've seen the caryatids so many times, but never knew their significance! You really opened my eyes!
